AI, Acceptable Use & Student Safety Policy
Last updated: 13 September 2026
This policy explains how artificial intelligence is used within Erlo Learning, what students should and should not use Erlo for, and important student-safety rules.
1. Who Erlo is for
Erlo Learning is primarily designed to help students study GCSE material and is currently intended for users aged 13 and over.
2. How Erlo uses AI
- Explain Maths concepts.
- Answer educational questions.
- Generate practice questions and worked solutions.
- Mark or review answers.
- Analyse photographs of schoolwork.
- Give feedback and recommend skills to practise.
3. AI can make mistakes
Artificial intelligence can produce incorrect, incomplete or misleading information. Students should use Erlo as a learning aid rather than treating every AI response as authoritative.
4. AI marking is not official exam marking
AI-generated marks and feedback are for practice only. They are not official GCSE marks and may differ from a teacher or examination board.
5. Personal information and the Tutor
- Do not send your password.
- Avoid sharing your full home address or phone number.
- Do not send bank or card information.
- Avoid sharing exact live location or another person's private information.
6. Uploading photographs
Try to photograph only the part of your work needed. Avoid including names, school details, addresses, phone numbers, IDs, faces or another student's private information.
7. Appropriate educational use
You may use Erlo for legitimate learning, revision, practice, explanations, hints and feedback.
You remain responsible for following your school's rules about AI and must not use Erlo during an examination or controlled assessment where outside assistance is prohibited.
8. Prohibited harmful activity
You must not use Erlo to facilitate unlawful or seriously harmful activity, threaten or seriously harass another person, distribute malware, steal credentials, commit fraud, invade another person's privacy or facilitate serious violence.
9. Sexual content involving children
Erlo Learning must never be used to create, request, upload, distribute or assist with sexual content involving anyone under 18.
10. Mental health and emergencies
Erlo Learning is an educational service, not an emergency service, doctor, counsellor, therapist or crisis service.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger in the UK, contact 999 or 112.
11. Account and security rules
- Keep passwords private.
- Do not sell or improperly share accounts.
- Do not deliberately bypass Free-plan limits.
- Do not scrape Erlo or automate large numbers of requests without permission.
- Do not attempt to break into accounts or systems.
12. Copyright and exam-board material
Do not systematically copy or redistribute copyrighted educational material you do not have permission to reproduce.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, Erlo Learning is not sponsored, approved or endorsed by AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR or another examination board.
13. How we respond to misuse
Where proportionate, we may warn, restrict, suspend or terminate accounts. We aim to distinguish between ordinary mistakes, curiosity and deliberate harmful misuse, taking age and seriousness into account.
14. Reporting a concern
If something on Erlo makes you uncomfortable or you believe something is unsafe, inappropriate or seriously incorrect, contact erlolearning@gmail.com.
15. No targeted advertising based on student learning
Erlo Learning does not currently use a student's Maths performance, Tutor conversations or uploaded schoolwork to target advertising.
16. Location
Erlo Learning does not need a student's precise physical location to provide ordinary GCSE learning features.
